Has Outsourcing Gone Too Far?

nuclear.jpg
A recent article in InformationWeek points out that Tata Consultancy Services, an Indian outsourcer doing business in the insurance industry, is in talks with Boeing and Lockheed Martin for pieces of the defense and aerospace contracts held by those companies. Needless to say, this means that U.S. defense and aerospace secrets could well be part of what IT people see in India or other outsourcing sites.

I know there are many good reasons for outsourcing some processes that don't involve core company (or government) functions, but I have to confess that this development makes me more than a little nervous. Last year, our federal government almost handed management of our ports over to a foreign government, and now we are faced with the prospect of having sensitive information openly accessible on the other side of the world.

Maybe you're one of those people who supports this "one world" nonsense, but I have to think that national security is the priority. Seems to me that some will do anything to make a buck, even play fast and loose with the safety of our nation. That's where I get off the global economy bus. Our national borders are there for a reason--not that the current administation in Washington seems to understand that. We should not stand for this further erosion of our sovereignty.

How about you? Are you OK with sharing sensitive technology or secrets with the rest of the world, or do you agree that we need to be a lot more careful?

Boeing has been outsourcing for some time design and engineering of planes & any other products it saves money to use Russian trained people and indian computer people. It is old news and very troubling in more ways than national security. I see this as the future of all business as the low cost producers will win out as insurance brokers seem to be the low cost channel for insurance sales! The Companies surely don't want us and have tried to create channels to compete so far unsucessfully & with greater costs per policy sold and issued with higher loss ratios.
